A Toronto bank sent a letter to customers explaining it will remain closed for weeks due to being taken over by a gang of masked bandits — a family of raccoons.

A letter sent to customers of the RBC branch in the Hillcrest-Bracondale area circulated on social media Thursday and revealed the reason behind the bank being closed since Aug. 23 — a family of raccoons had broken into the ceiling and made it their home.

The letter, signed by branch manager Stephen Clark, says the “unexpected repairs” are projected to be completed in late October.

“They did get into the roof,” bank spokesman Mark Hamill told the Toronto Star. “It’s a true story.”

“It’s not a quick fix,” he said.

Toronto has been dealing with a string of raccoon-related problems in recent months. One trash panda was caught on camera in May when it peeked out from a hole in the ceiling over a baggage claim area at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
